Every problem demands a specific solution. And every solution produces fresh knowledge, a new technique, a new process. Well aware of this, Petroflex decided to build up partnerships with universities and academic centers that generate knowledge both in Brazil and abroad. Its intention: to solve its environmental problems and usher in the conditions needed to develop new methods and technologies.

Through its Station-School Program, Petroflex provides grants for Master's Degrees and Doctorates, together with introductory study grants for undergraduate science students at Universities in Rio de Janeiro State who work at the Petroflex Liquid wastes Treatment Station.

The Station-School Program began with the dissertation written by Master's degree candidate João Luiz Ribeiro Reis, under a partnership between Coppe/UFRJ and Petroflex. Through an intensive research project, he carried out an accurate diagnosis of the Liquid Wastes Treatment System at the Duque de Caxias plant, identifying all its problems and suggesting ways of correcting them, in order to ensure compliance with environmental legislation in Rio de Janeiro State.
