SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY / SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT Petro-Eco Project
This is an environmental education project that is undertaken at the Pernambuco plant. Its main objective is to involve schools in the problem of environmental protection and make children aware of their need to participate in matters of communal interest. It also trains teachers in the public school network and involves the municipal government in the project, and develops commitments to environmental demands.
Our Roots Program This Project encompasses three other environmental projects: CAROBA, INGÁ and GUACO. The Caroba Project is preserving five hectares of remaining native forestlands with an annotated trail, open to employees and the public in general. Supporting environmental education and the conservation of riverbank forests, the Ingá Project is designed to upgrade water quality while preserving riverbank plants and wildlife and preventing the loss of arable topsoils. It is also helping develop the tourism attractions of the municipalities around the Polo Petroquímico do Sul petrochemicals complex in southern Brazil, restoring landscapes while boosting the self-esteem of local residents and enhancing their quality of life through providing jobs and income. The Guaco Project encourages the production and use of native aromatic and medicinal plants and herbs, in partnership with the community. The activities carried out through these Projects are overseen by a biologist and nurseryman hired by Petroflex, which also built and runs a nursery sized to produce 5,000 seedlings. |
