OUTREACH PROJECTS

Annex Class

Implemented through the teaching staff of the Industry Social Service (SESI) in Duque de Caxias, this Basic Education Project runs one class from literacy training through the 4th basic Grade, and one class for 5th to 8th basic grades. Lessons are given at the Petroflex facilities. The main objectives of this Project include: integrating the work place with the basic education process; improving educational levels; redeeming worker citizenship; and helping ensure excellence in quality.

Young Apprentices

Having signed up with the Program run by Brazil’s Ministry of Labor and Employment, Petroflex has already welcomed five youngsters from seventeen to twenty years old, working the its three plants and its offices in Rio de Janeiro.

Digital Inclusion Project

Implemented in partnership with the Committee for the Democratization of Information Technology (CDI), Petroflex sponsors the Digital Inclusion Project, holding classes on its premises in facilities designed specially for this purpose. The youngsters selected to participate in this Project were recommended by community leaders living around the Petroflex plants, as well as by the contractor managers.

Open Doors

This project began in 2002 and encourages local communities to take part in educational, cultural and leisure activities, which are held on Saturdays at the Company's headquarters. Under the initiative, workshops are held at which local communities are trained by instructors and volunteers on ways of generating income.

Special Inclusion

The Special Inclusion Project strives to empower people with special physical needs so that they can enter the job market. This Project assists people over sixteen years of age with special physical needs living in the Duque de Caxias municipality in the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region who are registered in the database of the Brazilian Institute for the Protection of the Rights of People with Special Needs.

Vocational training courses in information technology and administrative work are available, particularly for human resources and accounting departments. The main social impacts of this project are enhanced self-esteem and changes in the way that people with special needs are perceived, contributing to a decent social context.

Mentoring Project

Developed by Petroflex in partnership with the Environmental Defense Network, an NGO operating in the Cabo de Santo Agostinho community in Pernambuco State, Mentoring introduces basic concepts of citizenship, human rights and ethics, as a way of removing citizens from the process of social exclusion. This project disseminates knowledge through entrepreneurship and leadership techniques, as well as innovation and creative flair.

Information Technology and Citizenship School

This school was created in November 2002 in Montenegro (RS) to allow underprivileged young people from local communities to learn to use IT as a way of professional training and social inclusion. The Company invests R$ 20,000 annually in the school. The Pensamento Digital Foundation and Lar do Menor de Montenegro associations also take part.

Our Roots

The Caroba, Inguá and Guaco environmental projects have been clustered together in order to identify and reproduce forest species native to the Montenegro and Nova Santa Rita regions near Triunfo. In the course of the year, these activities focused on engaging schoolchildren and local residents in gallery forest restoration drives. Some 70,000 people are benefiting from this Program.
